“They will be able to tell you what will happen, to temper your character and your nerves with the idea of a promising message, but at no time will you know exactly when and where that situation will present itself; open your eyes and alert your senses, much of which depends on your ability to understand it. ”The Messenger
By Ariadne Gallardo Figueroa
That night the eight friends went to sleep and it was hard for them to fall asleep, but everything comes when fatigue is greater than nervousness and they had been travelled slopes and mountains, each time they moved further from the coast and sometimes they followed the edges of a river to quench their thirst and refresh their sweaty bodies or heat some water with the infusions that Evaristo prepared.
The castaways were approaching the Guadiana River.
Nobody knew the name of the lady who had spoken with Jacobo, perhaps they never knew it, or it would be told to one of them, they did not know it either. everyone expected to be privileged with such an amazing figure in their dreams.
Dayami, for her part, managed to penetrate the roots of some reeds and strengthen herself on the slopes of the rivers that definitively took her away from the sea, however her strength could recreate images at the will of the spaces she had touched.
That night nothing happened, the men fell into a deep sleep, but none received messages from the subtle presence that Jacobo related, the majority felt that perhaps in their need for adventure, for answers they did not know, and their desire to find something that will illuminate their lives, they had squandered their imagination turning it into something ephemeral.
After three days no one wondered anything, they even left the funny moments in which they gathered in front of the campfire to take turns with stories, those nights were arranged to make plans on how to get a boat or what skills could help them find a temporary job, without having to continue sheltered among the weeds, they had already left some regions behind without approaching to avoid reprisals or questions.
The wounds on their ankles had healed, those shackles that held them prisoner were no longer shown as evidence of their tragedy, their faces exhausted from lack of food and long walks inland, kept them alert and caring for each other.
But everything comes even when you don’t expect it, and it was Patricio who that night had one of the most revealing dreams he could have ever imagined. The wind blew strongly that night and it was precisely that wind that called him in his dreams:
<Patrick, Patrick, your pact with the deity of the river has arrived, keep your senses attentive and listen …>
A tremulous cold crossed the body of That man at the moment he felt Dayami’s wet touch, with curiosity the man tried to recognize who was touching his face and hair and in his dreams he whispered:
<Deity of the rivers, tell me your name!>
Dayami with cunning and serenity answered :
<I know perfectly well that it is not my name that keeps you curious and attentive to me, tonight, I come to tell you what you should know about this woman whose blood was turned into a deity, she is not a mermaid>
Patricio, dismayed and restless, only reached emit an exclamation:
Having said this, he was able to observe the figure of that lady among the mist of the depths of the water.
Dayami presents himself to Patricio as a dream among a shoal
“Patricio, you will be the reflection of others, you will be able to respond quickly to danger, you will recognize their voices and the intentions that bring them closer to you, you are a man who needs encouragement to act; you will be remembered as a speaker and builder. ”
That night was light and pleasant for the man who suddenly realized that the lady in question was not what he expected and had put in his mind the most splendid motivation to encourage him in his future endeavours. He did not want to wake up, since that dream later led him to imagine his life building something fascinating in that land that for them had become a luminous promise.
When they woke up, they all noticed her open and sincere smile and a special sparkle in her eyes, everyone had at that moment the certainty that the lady would give each of them a piece of advice, a gift, a reason to value their lives.
No one is indifferent to the wonderful offer of a better life, of a possibility and if you face someone who describes what your soul emanates, you can be happy and feel privileged.
